Equilibrium

As we enter into the time in which the days become shorter and the nights longer, the question of equilibrium comes up. In our culture of going, going, going, we don’t often honor the time to rest, be still or reflect. We can fill our nights with light to make the days as long as we wish, however at a certain point our bodies, our minds and our spirits protest and say ‘no more, thank you.’ How do we honor the balance within ourselves? How do we balance ourselves when there are so many ways in which to allow ourselves to be imbalanced? Sometimes we have to say no, to ourselves, to our loved ones, to our employers, our colleagues or our friends. We can say this with love, with respect and with gratitude. Sometimes ‘no’ is the most loving statement we can make.

It all starts within ourselves, to understand that it is OK to be well rested, well fed, nourished in mind and spirit, even with the tug to do more, see more, drive more, make more money, and exercise more still very much present within your egoic realm.

Equilibrium. Coming back to a state of balance, of stability, of presence. Can you say yes to doing less? Can you say yes to longer periods of darkness, of calm, of introspection? As Mother Earth knows within her core, we have cycles of great activity and cycles of dormancy and all moments in between are important.

Let yourself do less today. Let yourself enjoy the first day of less light and more darkness. Let one moment of introspection enter into your daily practice, and feel how this moment may change you.
